SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

DESCRIPTION OF INTENDED AREA OF STUDY

It is cliché to say that I have always known what I want to do with my life but in my case it happens to be true. It is indeed surprising that I have been holding on to the same ambition ever since I had one. A doctor is a noble profession. To me, it is not merely about saving lives but it is a profession which requires perseverance, dedication, hard work, passion and commitment. I have chosen medicine as my intended field of study and I wish to specialise in cardiology in the future. I developed the passion for this field as I joined the school’s Red Crescent Society in the year 2010. I was then elected as Deputy Head Section Leader(Vice President) in the year 2013. I attended first aid courses where I enhanced my knowledge on various bandaging techniques, basic first aid and also gained a hands-on experience performing CPR(Cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Due to my active participation in activities held by the MRC Head Quarters, I was elected as President( Head Section Leader) in the year 2014Being given an opportunity to lead 100 over members, has instilled a sense of responsibility in me and also developed my interest towards the medical field.

HOW WILL IT BENEFIT MY COUNTRY

I personally believe that we make a living by what we get and but we make a life by what we give. In other words, I wish to volunteer in a Global Humanitarian Aid organization, Doctors Without Borders(Medicins San Frontieres). This is because, I am aware that the medical situation in West African countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan remain dire. I would be more than willing to be actively engaged to this organization and volunteer to treat children, adults and senior citizens who are suffering from grievous illnesses such as Ebola and Tuberculosis. Some of their citizens are left in a lurch, health wise, as their leaders squabble amongst themselves for personal glory.

Apart from that, MERCY(Medical Relief Society) Malaysia is also  non- profit organization in which focuses on providing medical relief to the people of the country. As my biggest contribution as a doctor to my beloved country, I want to be able to reach out to vulnerable communities, especially people who live in places with poor amenities, shortage of clean water supply as well as bad medical conditionsThe founder of Mercy Malaysia, Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, a doctor and a humanitarian activist who has performed medical charity and medical rescue work in several countries has inspired the hearts of many. I would like to be someone like her in the future, to not only save lives but to make a change for the betterment of the country.

 PERSONAL QUALITIES

I have acquired numerous knowledge in my alma mater. Some of these invaluable skills that I learnt there include leadership qualities, communication, critical and analytical thinking, debating and public speaking, problem solving, management and organization abilities through active involvement in co-curricular activities. As the assistant secretary of the board of prefects, I developed leadership skills and have embedded a sense of responsibility in meHolding the post of the President of the Red Crescent Society and the Managing Director(President) of the Young Enterprise (YE) Club has given me the opportunity to lead, learn and discover new things, instill the drive to succeed as well as to work together as a team to achieve success. It had given me a glimpse into what the outside world is really like Nevertheless, there were a few challenges and obstacles I had to face along the way. The biggest challenge I took on was the Fed Ex Trade Challenge organized by Fed Ex and AMCHAM Malaysia. It is an International Trade competition in which I spent weeks preparing a market entry strategy plan. It took a lot of hard work and effort as I had to juggle between examinations and school work as well. All the effort paid off when my team was selected as the Top 5 pairs to represent Penang in Kuala Lumpur for the national level competition. It was indeed and indelible experience meeting senior managers of successful companies from all over the country and also being able to advertise my masterpiece to the public. This experience has not only built my confidence and self-esteem but also enabled me to be more enthusiastic, brave and determined to achieve my goalsOn top of that, winning the Best Managed YE Company was a bigger achievement for me as I succeeded in leading the team to victory. As a part of the YE project, we were required to visit St. Joseph’s orphanage in Penang. There, we talked to the children about personal care and hygiene, played some games, and showed some kindness to the lovely children. What I have learnt from this event is that academic qualifications alone does not define a person as an individual. The true character of a person surfaces in how he engages himself in community service, show love and kindness to the underprivileged

Active participation in co-curricular activities has shaped me into a more disciplined and responsible individual. I believe the above qualities that I feel I possess make me a worthy recipient of the scholarship. I would like to go the extra mile to achieve my dream. I would strive to be a successful and caring doctor at the same time hope to bring fame to my country. Just like in the case of my role models, I hope that one day the world would like up at my country with admiration through my deeds.

In conclusion, it would be a privilege to complete my Foundation studies in Kolej Yayasan UEM if I were awarded this scholarship as it would bring me one step closer to achieving my dream. I would like to thank the committee for considering my application.

Changes in 15 years, 2030

Peace and stability- Middle East 2) Technological advancements. 3) Manned space shuttles to Mars. 4) Robots 1) Fifteen years ago, it seemed like this year would be the peak of human civilization.movies? Fifteen years on, 2030 is not far away. I would like to envision 2030 in a great way; flying cars, robots and so on. I have to get back to reality though, as those will certainly not exist. Although 2030 should be a landmark year, I would still like to see it pan out differently. 2) The most important thing that I would like to see in 2030 is an even more technologically-advanced human society. Yes, we might admit that in 2015, we humans can do anything; from going to the bottom of the Mariana Trench or stepping foot on the Moon. But there are several things that still remain beyond our control. 3) A great example is cancer. A disease that has existed for as long as humans itself, we have yet to find a cure for it. Research for cancer has been progressing over the years but cancer cont...

PEACE IS NOT AN ABSENCE OF WAR

Back in the early 20th Century, many leaders thought that nations had to go to war to correct the wrongs in the world. This led to World War One, the Great War allegedly to end all wars. Unfortunately, it only progressed to a magnanimous loss of lives and properties. People who were caught in the middle of the tussle thought there would be peace on Earth if only war would and could stop. They soon realised how wrong they were. The planet continued to witness many more violent upheavals which stemmed from this Trench War. In the 1960s through to the early 1970s, Vietnamese were engaged in a never-ending battle over differences in political outlooks. Placard-carrying pacifists and opposers to war thought peace would just simply roll in seamlessly after both sides laid down their arms. How naive they were! After the war, they only found dead bodies, devastation, napalmed countryside, buried memories and dangers of live booby traps.  Look at us now in the 21st century at th...
